“Starting” my book
Pushing past the frustration of the past restarts and to start writing again — with a new tool.
For more than 10 years I've been trying to write a book for my son. I've been encouraged by blogs and podcasts and YouTube channels. Edits, drafts, and snippets litter every writing platform and tool you can imagine.
There's a stapled outline I carry around like an old map. Sadly, the book's main idea makes sense and the plot works, but I can't write fiction to save my life.
The problem is my perfectionism means it's "perfect" or never started / done and 99% of the time it's the latter. Part of my problem is I edit as I write so I never make much progress.
I'm a sucker for tools (kitchen, shop, or office), so to fix my constant attempts to throw things in reverse I purchased a Brother AX-24 Electronic Typewriter off Craigslist for $30.
I'm ready to get started again.
