Estimating a sauna build

April 22, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute

The last couple weeks I’ve spent some time building a Menards (home-improvement store) list on their app to see what a 5x6 interior-dimension, electric-heated, outdoor sauna would cost. Just to get a ballpark estimate.

To make a shed-style roof (one slope), without any outside labor, I’m already looking at thousands. Framing and roofing / fascia is roughly $700. (I didn’t estimate siding or fiberglass insulation, yet.) The 6.5 kW heater is roughly $750 before taxes. The interior cladding quote is about $1,600 for all walls, duckboard floor and benches. So, right now, I’m at about $3,100 before siding and insulation and the special perforated kraft-backed foil vapor barrier.
