Getting organized

April 23, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute

Today I finally cut down the workbench so that it’s narrower. I am tall and I have long arms and I could not easily reach across the 40” bench to pull hardware out of my bins or reach tools on the magnet holders. As I worked I wondered if the work to trim 12” off the width is worth it. I think it will be. I’ll be able to reach to the back of the shelf under the table and roll the table around the shop into tighter spaces.

Two things I neglected in my process that I’ll solve in one action. Two of my wheels swivel and two don’t. I reattached the legs with the swivel-wheel legs on the diagonals! Also, I forgot to install the shelf board before the legs were on.

Tomorrow is a day off and I’ll swap some legs and get the shelf inserted. Looking forward to a more usable space and room to store my tools.
