Lambing time

April 22, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute

We are watching our four bred ewes and we expect lambs any day now. Sebastian came onsite about five months ago, so April 15 was the earliest we expected. It’s April 22 … I’m eager to see the lambs.

Last year, I made two major mistakes and we lost a ewe shortly after she birthed our bottle lamb, Maple (see picture). I learned a couple important lessons:

  1. Never breed a lamb younger than one year old.
  2. Carefully introduce sheep back on to fresh grass in the spring.

About

My name is Daniel McLean and our family is turning our little 10-acre spot north of North Branch, Minnesota, into a place to raise kids (and see grandkids), build forts, keep sheep, work with wood, and connect with people.
