Shocking experience

May 1, 2026 - Reading time: 2 minutes

We took our solar charger and electric netting out of winter storage last night and got the sheep onto green grass for 30 minutes last night.

Gave them another hour this morning. We have to be so careful they don’t overindulge and get bloat. Last year we lost our only black lamb to bloat soon after she gave birth to Maple. I didn’t know how dangerous green grass was to sheep in the spring after a winter of dry stuff.

On the green grass they swung their heads like mowers and gobbled up mouthfuls.

this morning I went to give them some more time out and I accidentally touched my butt to the electric fence while my hand was on the yellow swing gate. Wow!! That was a punch. Scene of the crime:

I’s say I’m grounded and the fence works! I guess I need to learn to respect it every year. I’ve been nursing a pulled muscle in my back and I think this treatment this morning sent me back a bit.
