Whitey Pine’s future secured

April 22, 2026 - Reading time: ~1 minute

Whitey Pine, a wether, was spared a trip to cherry Hill Meat Processors in Taylors Falls by the appeals of my boys. We’re nearing the one-year cutoff between ‘lamb’ and ‘sheep.’ Lamb is mild tasting and ‘sheep’ is apparently more gamey.

Whitey is the most gentle and one of the friendliest sheep we have, but as a ‘farm animal’ he is a liability, eating food and stealing grain from the bred ewes.

His tenor teenager bleat is unmistakable. He is forever spared and loving it. :)

About

My name is Daniel McLean and our family is turning our little 10-acre spot north of North Branch, Minnesota, into a place to raise kids (and see grandkids), build forts, keep sheep, work with wood, and connect with people.
